inivent 1000 - Stainless Steel or White Models
The Vent 1000 is the most economical and smallest boat solar vent in the Nicro Models line. Fits a 3-3/4' installation hole. At just 7' in diameter and approximately 1-3/4' high, the vent-mini 1000 is max compact. Under solar power the Minivent will move 700 cubic feet of air/hour. At night, even a light breeze will continue to ventilate the boat passively.
The solar powered vent model is an exhaust best vent only, and will keep the cabin cool.

Nicro types of ventilation
There are two major Nicro types of ventilation that Nicro Ventilation Systems provide.
Maintenance ventilation is defined as the amount
of ventilation required to reduce or eliminate the growth of mold,
mildew and musty air in the unattended boat cabin. In general, replacing
the air at least once per hour is recommended.
The best way to guarantee a continuous, 24-hour air flow is by using a Nicro solar powered vent with a rechargeable battery. These vents require no wiring and do not draw off the boat's 12V system.
Comfort boat ventilation is another significant benefit of Nicro ventilation. It is the amount of ventilation required to affect the comfort level in the cabin. We recommend that air be circulated at least once per hour per person below deck.
When intake and exhaust air flows are combined, cross flow ventilation is achieved. All Nicro vents with rechargeable battery back-up come with two fan blades. This makes additional intake air flow easy to accomplish, adding fresh air and comfort below.

Nicro solar vents utilize solar cells which are technically known as photo voltaic or PV cells.
The photovoltaic cells consist of wafer thin crystals which conduct positive and negative charges, resulting in a flow of electricity. The challenge is to minimize the heat generated by this process so as not to interfere with the sunlight-to-electricity conversion. Nicro solar powered vents are engineered to achieve an optimal conversion level that is consistent in every vent we produce.

is blowing above deck. To allow your cowl vents to remain open in
heavy rain or spray, mount them on a dorade or water trap.
Air turbines are very seldom seen on modern boats, are considered old fashioned and are generally seen only over the galley stoves of old schooners. They're bulky but move a tremendous volume of air when the wind is blowing.
Most active vents are adaptations of the passive vents above with the addition of a fan. The most popular active vent is a disc vent with fan blades built into the deckpipe. Many active vents are shipped with two sets of fan blades, one that blows outward as an exhaust vent and another that blows inward as an intake. This feature allows you to change the airflow as conditions change.
Active vents can be run off any power source and they are available with a number of different features.
12-volt vents use the ships power. Many have switches that allow you to use the vent in either the passive or active mode. They're ideal for boats with large battery banks or when plugged into shorepower with a battery charger running.
Vents made of plastic or vinyl require very little maintenance.
Stainless steel may require an occasional polishing; brass or bronze
will need more work to maintain a good-looking finish.
Many vents have optional trim rings or other installation parts. Measure carefully and be sure to purchase all the necessary parts at the same time.
Insect screens reduce air flow substantially. If you're using screens, consider increasing the size or number of vents to compensate for the decreased effectiveness.
The natural air flow in many boats is from aft to forward, which is counterintuitive and comes as a surprise to many boat owners. Vents placed far apart fore and aft take advantage of this natural air flow.
Cowl vents may need guards over them to protect them from damage and prevent lines wrapping around their necks, especially on a sailboat. Place cowl vents carefully to avoid obstructing deck work.
Cabin fans and portlight fans can bolster ventilation considerably. Canvas covers over hatches and hoods or other deflectors above portlights allow them to remain open in light to moderate rain, just when boat ventilation is needed most.
A solar powered Nicro vent
To install is the chain stopper and a solar powered Nicro vent into the hatch. There will also be a quick connect fitting for the deck wash. Note the up/down buttons for the winch. The recess is sloped forward so any gunk is easily washed out.

The forward hatch of course had a nicro vent but even the top hatch as little as it was had a special cut because of surface mounted hinges and a bumper for when it was fully open that had to be incorporated into the custom cut of its new Outand Hatch Covers.
This is a sailboat that the customer had unique side flush lens on non opening ports. Canvas or mesh would require snaps to be screwed into the fiberglas. The forward hatch had a NICRO vent but look how smart it looks all dressed up. All the covers can be removed in seconds and stored behind the seat cushions.
Nicro Solar Vent Install.
Used holesaw to cut 3 3/4 opening in saloon hatch. Secured with Marine Goop plus #10 x 1 machine screws with aircraft lock nuts and finishing cap nuts. Reversed interior flannel for finished look. Installed exhaust fan blades. Will add a second unit to forward hatch with intake fan blades. The active units will draw air from two existing passive dorades.
