Shelton marina and a yacht club - WA

Shelton & Oakland Bay - marina and a yacht club

Good anchorage is possible in the bay on a mud bottom. The bay is the site of a marina and a yacht club. This moorage is approximately one half mile from the town of Shelton along State Hwy 3. Downtown, there is a Visitor Information Center in a historic Peninsula Railway Caboose #700. Take a self guided walking tour and discover the hidden creeks, inquire about the timber industry, and browse the quaint shops along the main street. WiFi is available in the downtown area. The Mason County Historical Museum, a post office, and four city parks are also found downtown. Several county parks are within driving distance, including Shorecrest County Park where a small boat launch with a low tide advisory and picnic sites are found. Car rentals are available for sightseeing. Much of Oakland Bay is devoted to log storage and oyster cultivation. Shelton, coined the Christmas Tree Capital of the World, celebrates a Forest Festival in June. Shelton is also the world's largest exporter of shellfish.

WA-Brownsville Yacht Club

Although Burke Bay is shallow with drying areas, it is the site of launching ramps and a large marina that is home to the Brownsville Yacht Club - established in 1971. Stay inside the green buoys as you enter or depart the marina. Within walking distance is Overlook Park with a covered picnic area, picnic tables, fire pit, barbeques, and horse shoe area. The full service Deli has excellent food along with beer, wine and ice.

The Daily Stop grocery store and Sweeney's Country Style Meats are well within walking distance (less than 1/4 mile.) A Cascadia Marine Trail System camp-site is located in Brownsville. In September, Brownsville Appreciation Day is held at the Port to support local schools. It is a fun day with live music, a car show, arts & crafts, food, dinghy rides, and kids games.
